Lewisboro, NY History
Early settlers purchased the land now known as Lewisboro, NY from local American Indians. They first settled around the area now known as South Salem.
The Town of Salem was established in 1747. By 1790, the town had assumed its current boundaries as part of the original property became other towns. The name of the community was changed to South Salem in 1806. John Lewis, a financier, asked that the town be named after him when he established a town fund.
